Constantin Pittas - Images of another Europe

From 1985 to 1989, Konstantinos Pittas traveled alone throughout Europe. With a small 35-point MINOX he took 30,000 black-and-white pictures.

His goal was to make a book of Europeans, all Europeans — from both sides of the Iron Curtain — united. A united Europe without borders, in the midst of the Cold War. He took his last photograph at the Berlin Wall, the day after its fall. At the end of the Cold War, he believed that his plan no longer made sense. He put the negatives in a box and forgot about them, kept on with his life. After 25 years, in 2014, he discovered the camera and the forgotten negatives. This unique collection became a book and a major exhibition at the Benaki Museum in 2016, followed by other exhibitions abroad. The current, second, augmented version of the book contains a larger selection (145 pht.) of the best photos as well as texts. An unique panorama of a historical era through the faces of the people.
